For months I have modified my website by uploading new material via ftp. Starting yesterday I have been doing the same procedure but find when I go to my website that the new material is not there. On a whim I tried to access my website via MS IE and found that the new material was there. I'm concerned that any other regular FireFox user like me will not be able to see uploaded new material. You can check it out yourself by going to www.bigband-era.com and clicking on Trivia. The old file is dated May 18. The new one is dated June 2. If you see the new material, then the problem must be with my computer.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache.

  • Press and hold Shift and left-click the Reload button.
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Cmd + Shift + R" (MAC)

I say it is helpful, but actually I wasn't able to figure where the reload key or button is located. Anyway, when I tried to access my website I was able to see the updated posting. Maybe the problem was with my ISP, to whom I addressed the same problem yesterday. If they did something, they didn't have the courtesy to tell me. Anyway, I thank you for your help and would find it useful in the future if you could explain where I'll find re-load. That's because I'm about to upload another bit of material and may run into the same problem.

You can use the keyboard shortcuts if you can't find the reload toolbar button.

Firefox 4 uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end side of the location bar.
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
Middle-click the Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.

I would like to ask the opposite question. How can I get Firefox to load a copy of a page from its cache in my computer when I'm not on line? I used to do this (I think it was with Internet Explorer), but now whenever I'm off line and I try to access a page that I had visited recently I get a message sayin' that it can't access the site.

Thanks, but that's not really what I want. I don't want to have to think about what I want to read. I simply want to be able to go back to anything I was reading earlier, even if I have since closed it. Obviously I don't expect it to work forever, but in the past I could access things from days or even weeks earlier. Maybe I should go back to Internet Explorer?

If you can't open the pages in File > Work Offline mode then that extension can help, but of course you need to know that at the time of visiting.

What is the current cache size (should be set to automatic) as listed on the about:cache page?

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache)

It says 50 MB. There's no option "automatic". (This is version 3.6.8.)
