Hello, I have made a small update to the question I had asked a couple months ago yesterday, but then noticed the announcement at the top of the support forums asking people to re-post questions, so I'm going to re-post it:

The url of my previous question was:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1152362

And it can be summarized as follows:

Title: Drag&dropping a favicon into a Windows Explorer folder is too slow.

I'm on Windows 7 64bit, and am using Firefox 32bit, which is set to automatically update itself. This concerns the behavior of drag&dropping the favicon of the website you're currently viewing within Firefox into a folder opened with a Windows Explorer, in order to create a website shortcut file. Usually, it wouldn't take half a second to create the shortcut, but in my case, it takes like more than 5 seconds on average to complete task, and the CPU usage gets very high all the while. I used to not have this problem at all until some point in the past. And I'm not really sure what started this problem. Oddly, this problem does never happen with tabs opened in a Private Window. This is frustrating, and searching the web for a solution doesn't yield much related Q&A's. So, do you have any good ideas about this?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen or hold down the Shift key) to see if that has effect in case your security software is interfering.

I'm afraid I can't do it right now because of work, so I'll report back on this issue, when I can reboot my PC later. Thank you.

UPDATE:

Hello,

Just a small update.

I'm really sorry but I haven't followed your suggestion of going in to Safe Mode, yet.

It's been a couple months, but I'm usually very busy when I'm using this computer, and I'm still using a HDD instead of a SSD, so rebooting in Safe Mode and going back to Normal Boot Mode takes forever, so I'm always reluctant to try it. And I'm afraid to say that I don't think I'll have the time to do so any time soon, as I'm always busy with work.

I, however, have tried temporarily turning off my Antivirus software, namely 'Avast Free Antivirus', and tested making a url file in the same way as before, but it still takes very long to complete the task: I'm definitely sure it takes as long as when my Antivirus is turned on.

Also, I'm no expert in the matter, but I strongly suspect the problem doesn't have to do with my Antivirus, because my problem happens ONLY with Firefox, and no other browsers, such as Vivaldi, and so on. And my Antivirus DOES interfere with these other browsers, and also all kinds of other programs, for that matter, such as my download managers, etc.: it always blocks the same suspicious webpages, regardless of which browsers or download managers I use to access them.

So, dear Firefox experts, would you please kindly point me in the right direction, in case my report above has triggered some insight into solving this problem?

I personally find this problem extremely annoying, as I always have to use FIrefox in Private Browsing Mode to circumvent this problem and make Firefox functional, and in this case I lose track of all my browing history...! So please say anything on the matter!

Thanks in advance!
