On W 8.1 with all latest OS updates. Firefox all latest, 36.0

Video of problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SqlTmIvcoLc

The only options I have in my modem/router's Compal-ch7486e-70684 (CH) setting is QoS, which I have turned on since months ago.

Chrome experiences the same problem.

After having switched to startech usb 3.0 adapter the slowness went away (about 2 months ago). I concluded that my CPU is poor and the adapter now did some of the computing power. But then the slowness came back

www.startech.com%2FNetworking-IO%2FAdapter-Cards%2FUSB-3-to-Gigabit-Ethernet-NIC-Network-Adapter%7EUSB31000S

From my log:

Maybe 1-2 months ago Was connected to my WIFI (DLINK DAP-1522 connected to CH). Google calendar took a really long time to load. Switchted to my Samsung S3's hotspot. Gcal was quick to load. Then switched back to WIFI and it was as quick. On the other hand making a Facebook post took a really long time to load via WIFI but was quick via the hotspot.

If I have the slowness, and detach-attach network cable the slowness is gone.

22 Mars 2015 Closed almost all processes, it did not help Disabled all firefox addons. This made problem go away.

But now it's back again.

On the 22th of Mars I removed cookies in Firefox. It's the same on WIFI as corded. Power options are set to high performance.

edit: before making this post there has been 1 day since I made a new profile. This seemed to help in the beginning, but now I see signs the slowness is creeping back. Some pages definitely takes too long to load.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Thanks for helping.

I don't have any such addons.

I've ran firefox with the new profile, and in safe mode, for about 4 days now. The problem is back.

If it's happening in Chrome and Internet Explorer, too, it might just be slow internet. If we can't figure out what the problem is, complain to your internet company. ;) Can you go to speedtest.net and post your internet speed here? Thanks.

But that wouldn't explain why it works if I detach-attach network cable? The problem is present in friends house.

I've measured many times on a a site native to Sweden, always gotten high results the last couple of weeks.

Speedtest gave: Ping 8ms, down 15.18 mbps, up 10.57 mbps

Yea, that's low. That shouldn't account for the slow browsing though as the speed is good enough for that activity, right? I've been in contact with the ISP and they say it's a general error in my neighborhood causing lower dowload speeds. My connection is 100mbit/10 atm (downgraded from 250) .

Keep after them until their system is fixed. Also, contact their customer support, and ask for a refund for the service you are not getting.

Until the ISP is cleaned up, you won't know if the problem is theirs, or yours.

One last thing, do you have any kind of meter that tells you what your internet is doing? I was thinking something else on the computer may be slowing it down.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

ISP: I've done that.

Yes I'm also thinking something else, or a combination of things, is the cause. I don't have a meter no.

Did you check your security software (firewall, anti-virus)?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

There are gadgets available that can place a meter on your desktop. I don't know about Win 8, but Win 7 has the Windows Task Manager.

@cor-el: In safe mode, the problem did not occur under the same cirumstances as my normal behaviour, when it usually happens.

However I opened 6-7 tabs at once, it did occur. This was with 10 tabs already opened.

I haven't checked firewall, antivirus. I have windows 8 firewall, eset nod 32 antivirus. Going to try with antivirus and firewall disabled. Have a vague memory I did it before, but need to be sure.

@FredMcD: meter of what exactly? bandwidth?

Bandwidth, CPU, system temp, almost anything you want.

3 and a half days after disabling firewall + antivirus and using fireofx frequently, I haven't experienced the problem. Now turning on firewall and observe behaviour.

Were you using Windows firewall, or something else? Check for upgrades.

Windows firewall. No updates for firewall available.

Firewall is disabled in router.
