Hi Everybody,

I am trying to move some eMails from the inbox to one specific Storage Folder. I seem to be able to move messages to any Storage Folder I want, except for this one, single Storage Folder.

There must be something in that Storage Folder settings that deny a move. What could it be?

As per the subject - all of a sudden in my replies, I see machine language above the text of the original email I am replying to?

I have checked and unchecked Message Body options - but the machine language remains in the reply.

That machine language is not seen by the reply recipient, but is distracting to me as I type that reply above the original message

Note too that my reply is in 'normal' text above the machine language of the original message - so I can send normally

I'm using version 140.0.1esr on macOS Sequoia 15.3.2. The problem is very simple. When I compose an email, hitting return puts me at the center of the next blank line. If I type, the text is all centered from this point on. Thunderbird didn't do this in the past, so I either inadvertently changed a setting, or the behavior of Thunderbird has recently changed.

I really have no desire to spend time getting to know Thunderbird better. Like most people, I want to compose completely unstructured text-based email. (If I ever wished to add structures, which I doubt I ever will, I'd prefer markdown to HTML, like everyone else in the known universe ...)

Ideally: there is an easy fix by changing a setting. Second best: There is an alternative email program to Thunderbird, perhaps text based, that can read Thunderbird mail archives. Third option: There is an early version of Thunderbird that still runs on current versions of Mac, before Thunderbird began including text formatting in email composition (along with all of the other distractions that have be degrading the quality of Thunderbird for a very, very long time).

I am unable to modify the font color that I see in a email. However, it shows for others. And it copy/pastes - I can change a sentence to blue, it will appear to me black, I can send it to another and they see blue; copied to me I still see black. I can copy the text and put it into word, alter it, put it back in Tbird and it all seems black to me all along, but when I send to another, they see blue. (I should maybe put it in a text editor to inspect code there???)

But I think a clue is - apologies if this is a misdirect, but just before noticing all this, it happened that when I used Constant Contact to send me a test email, the background color of that newsletter is clear -- no color. MORE, when I lookup old emails that had the same background color, while once they were colored, they now appear all clear to me. More, when I go to the gmail server, those test emails look fine there. Others receiving the tests fo not have the color problem. Oh, and the "real" newsletter also still has the color problem, when sent to me and viewed in Tbird.

SO. It is a my-Tbird problem.

I have tried to follow old threads, looking for old settings regarding color and overriding; cannot do it.

I am using Tbird 140.0.2

Can anyone please help me? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Also, tried the window-closing order-of-operations thing (for font color change) but it's really not that at all....

Also, following others' threads, I got into a colors setting and tried resetting that to default but the problem persists.

Recently, Thunderbird is saving my sent messages to "Sent Messages" which is a folder that exists on my remote server. Up until this time, they were going to a folder called "Sent" which is where I want the messages to go.

I navigated to Account Settings and clicked on Copies & Folders and found the option for placing a copy in the "Sent" folder on my server. So, I chose that option, but messages are still being saved to "Sent Messages."

I have the latest version of Thunderbird that I am using on a Windows 11 laptop. I'm not sure what else I can tell you that will help.

Is there a font setting to change JUST the font size (event title field) that is displayed on the TB Calendar monthly grid view. Was able to change overall size in TB, but did not really want same change on mail views? Perhaps a specific TB setting (or userchrome command)?

Yes, I did see the question on Calendar Event font size changes, but not applicable to this as I read it...

Thanks for any suggestions, if any....

Hello, I'm trying to deploy a dynamic HTML signature on Thunderbird 140 ESR using policies.json. The goal is to pull user data (full name, job title, phone number) from our Active Directory.

The PostMessage policy for setting the signature is completely ignored. However, other policies like DisableAppUpdate work perfectly, so I know policies.json is being read correctly.

Troubleshooting has confirmed this is not a path or permission issue, as the signature also fails when using a local file (file:///C:/...) and even when the signature is set as direct text inside the policy itself.

Is this a known bug or issue in v140 ESR? Is there a reliable method to deploy a dynamic signature from AD via policy?

Thank you.

Hi Folks - This is a silly question, I'm sure and if there's something in Settings I'm missing, my apologies!

But, with the new version, when I leave my Inbox - whether it's to write an email or read one that has been sent to me - and I return, the Inbox is very briefly empty, then all of the emails in the Inbox show up in a, for lack of a better term, cascading effect.

Everything's working fine - but seeing this every single time is a bit disconcerting. Help?

After accidental change to Thunderbird 140.0.1esr (64-bit) all date/time display changed to American format (7/16/2025, 12:55 PM) where it used to be the settings of my machine (Win10 64 bit, language English, region Netherlands): short date dd-MM-yyyy long date ddddd dd-MM-yyyy short time HH:mm long time HH:mm:ss I tried overriding the setting using the config editor and inserted ntl.date_time.pattern_override.date_short and ntl.date_time.pattern_override.time_short, restarted TB which promptly lost the new settings (not saved). Also the Message List Display Options defaults to Cards view after restart, even after changing to Table view.

Please help!

Prevent Thunderbird from stripping custom headers (e.g. X-Alias) on sending

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a privacy-friendly email setup and ran into a challenge with Thunderbird.

My setup: I have a catch-all email address that forwards all incoming emails sent to *@mydomain.com to my real mailbox, secret@mydomain.com. This way, I can use aliases like alias1@mydomain.com, alias2@mydomain.com, etc., without exposing my actual address.

This part works perfectly.

The problem: When replying to a message sent to alias1@mydomain.com, Thunderbird automatically uses secret@mydomain.com as the sender address. That defeats the purpose — the recipient now sees my secret address, which I wanted to keep hidden.

Thunderbird offers a workaround via identities, but it requires creating a separate identity for every single alias, which becomes unmanageable if you use a lot of them.

My attempted solution: My idea was to have my mail server insert a header like:

X-Alias: alias1@mydomain.com

Then, on sending, the server could rewrite the From: header using that value — thus preserving the alias and protecting my actual address.

However, I discovered that Thunderbird strips custom headers like X-Alias when sending. That breaks the solution.

My questions: 1. Is there any way to configure Thunderbird to preserve specific custom headers like X-Alias during sending? 2. Alternatively, is there a better or recommended approach to achieving what I’m trying to do — replying from the alias address automatically, without exposing the real one, and without creating hundreds of identities?

I’d really appreciate any ideas, insights, or suggestions. Thank you!

This is a weird one. For a few months now, I've had to deal with either my email timestamps being wrong, or my calendar appointment times being wrong.

I'm on Linux. I can replicate this with both the Flatpak and my distribution package.

By default, my email timestamps are fine. But my calendar appointment times are out by around 17 hours (that is, Thunderbird says they are happening 17 hours earlier than they actually are). I compare this to my Fossify Calendar app on my phone, which I had to install recently so I had a single source of truth, which is always correct. (It uses davx5 OSE as a bridge)

So the appointments themselves...are fine. My other calendar app can display them okay.

If I want to get the appointment times to display correctly, the only way is to set an environment variable. Regardless of whether I set my timezone manually in Calendar settings or use the system timezone (which is correct!), nothing changes. This is the only way to get it to work:

``` TZ=Australia/AEST thunderbird ```
or:
``` TZ=Australia/AEST flatpak run org.mozilla.Thunderbird ```

Now, my appointment times are correct...but my email timestamps are off! They are 11 hours behind what they should be. Despite this being my actual timezone.

I don't know what else to do. Please, is there any way to get my timestamps consistent for both my email and my appointments?
