"This connection is untrusted" message. After choosing "I understand" "add except" and "confirm sec" it takes me to a modified version of the site.

Almost every website produces a "This connection is untrusted" message. After choosing "I understand the risks", "Add exception", and "Confirm security exception" it takes me to a stripped-down version of the site that looks nothing like the real site. I even get this message on Mozilla sites trying to solve the problem. Under the technical details it reads, "The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)" The articles I read about this do not seem to help.

This happened after I restored firefox to default settings. I have the copy of my personal folder on my desktop. I've tried putting it back in, but nothing changes. I've removed and reinstalled firefox a few times.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you community!

unfortunately the do_not_trust certificates might be a sign of unwanted software present on your pc that is intercepting secure network traffic. please go into the system control panel and uninstall programs like BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard or other software that sounds suspicious and didn't get installed by you intentionally.

afterwards, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

hello tc77, which issuer information does the certificate contain when you attempt to create an exception and view its details (see screenshot)?

Philipp,

Wow! Case closed! I found BrowserSafeguard and other programs in the control panel that came with an update I installed today. When I removed them, firefox functioned normal again! What a blessing! Thank you!
