Not a question but a solution that worked for me. Firefox 57 would start but not open a web page. Once I removed Lavasoft Web companion, Firefox worked fine
When starting Firefox 57 in Windows 10, the browser would open, but it would not open a web page, indicating that I had no network connection. Internet Explorer was working fine, as was my e-mail. After much searching, finding that many users were have the same problem and seeing one suggestion that an antivirus protection software might be causing a problem, I looked through what was running via Task Manager. I saw that Web Companion from Lavasoft was loaded and thought that I should try removing it to find out if it was causing a problem. I removed it and voila, Firefox is working fine now. I suspect that Web Companion was also having the Google Chrome in the same way.

Yes thank you. I suggest you follow it up with a scan by Malwarebytes for left overs or if it also had other things in it like mine did, Conduit. https://www.malwarebytes.com
