Up front: I am a Firefox fan for years, but recently too much time is spent on trying to get things working again. I feel that Firefox should properly work right from the start, i.e. without users having to figure out, reading through endless posts, why it doesn't.

For example: with [New Tab] I -used- to open the home page (configured in the about-config) Mozilla disabled it and I now need to install an add-on to accomplish the same. If an add-on can do it, there is no use to disable it.

For Flash forget about Firefox: I use Edge.

Now again, another issue: in Gmail images are not displayed. They are correctly displayed, including formatted text, in Outlook and .. yeah.. again, in Edge. So, I have to spent time on trying to figure out why Firefox doesn't. (Note: AdBlockPlus is disabled for gmail in Firefox, emoticons are displayed correctly, but text still unformatted and the embedded image is not displayed)

Now, surely there will be some technical solution, but Mozilla should consider that most people simply do not search for solutions, most people do not attend forums and/or are posting anything in forums.

My wife, her friends, they fail no technical knowledge. They know how to switch on the computer, to access their mail, but if things aren't working correctly, they have no idea how to solve it, get frustrated and start to complain. That's something you don't want, so Firefox isn't a product for women.

Anyway:

Question: why doesn't Gmail in Firefox display formatted text and embedded images? (Gmail in Edge: no problem)

Hello ffw62, I have also been a Firefox admirer for long time now and face no problem in viewing my Gmail. Lets try to figure out what could have gone wrong.

Can you please try to Refresh your Firefox:-

Type in about:support in the URL bar and choose Refresh Firefox...

and then Update it.

I just now came one (little) step further. Somewhere I read something about 'forward'

So, I did the following test

1. once the mail is a forwarded mail - embedded image doesn't show 2. when (in Outlook 2013) I copy paste the contents and send it as a new mail then the contents is displayed correctly.

(btw, I am using the latest version and -before posting- I had also CCleaner clear the cache and cookies, that didn't help)

Yeah, definitely: 1. forward, keep message body untouched: no image 2. re-send original mail, which was a forwarded mail already: no image 3. forward, remove headers from the mail (i.e. the from/to/title stuff, that was already in body) but keeping the body untouched: no image 4. copy-paste body of the original-forwarded-to-me-mail into a newly created mail: embedded image is displayed

my conclusion: there is an issue with embedded images in gmail with Firefox. again, gmail in Edge, no issues (neither one of the above)
