See attached screen shot. The DISPLAY submenu should be visible, but the pane has truncated its dropdown height. I can click around on the different submenus, and some of them display, some don't, and when I go back to one that did not display, maybe it will display.

can someone tell me what happens with 31.7? I have had one reply to my call for OSX users Yasemite they said they used and all menus were working fine.

31.8 is build on the same Geko base as 38.X.X so what difference there is with 31.7 would be interesting to say the least.

>A list of plugins you find if you click on button "about plugins" in Troubleshooting information > Helpful, but I want to point out a formatting problem with that. I pasted it into TextEdit, and the various table fields have bad cell widths. So I'm dragging them to get it nicely "visible". Even after setting the display to "screen width" instead of "page width."

The section "mail & news accounts" is not re-sizing for me. I'm dragging one very wide field narrower, but some fields to the right are ALSO becoming narrower, and I can't figure out WHICH column I need to drag first. Maybe some cells are wrapping to the next line or something. But I cannot UNDO this dragging wider. Frustrating.

It would help if it was set up to show hairlines around every cell; then at least visually it would be easier to "grab" a column, and I could tell when columns had been "split" -- which screws up resizing widths, so the should NOT be split in the first place.

I don't use a text-editor but Libre Office document (page set as Landscape). I could print it using a pdf-writer. (landscape). Or send it as email, but thats not an option for you as your text is to small. And (thankfully) I don't have a mac.

You have several different Q all about text-size, why bring it up again? I'm not employed by TB neither are the others in support. We are users like you so dont take your frustration out on our attempt to solve your problem. I'm out of town and reach for some days, so don't expect a swift answer

All I get is plain text. So I have no idea what your doing.

But then I copied and pasted into Thunderbirds message composer.

Perhaps you should backup, then try to make a new profile, import account-settings, addressbook and mail-folders. (offline). then install your add-ons.

Within the profile folder, I see a MAIL folder, but no "account settings" or "addressbook" which of course I don't want to lose.

EDIT: the article "Profiles TB" does not address creating a new profile and transferring the "vital parts" in order to try to fix a problem that is presumed to be a corrupted profile.

First of all use any of the tools that can make a full backup of Thunderbird on a mac. I have no idea what you should use.

Just in case this is relevant - Another question has been opened by same person: 38.1.0 Font size of text entered in a Reply is rendered a size smaller than line above Also mentions the sub menu window being too small. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1074405

I have an idea which might fix this Options/Preferences window getting smaller.

Could you try this:

  • make hidden files and folders visible.

In Thunderbird

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • click on 'show folder' button

a window should open showing Profile folder

  • Close Thunderbird now - this is important
  • Create a chrome folder - note spelling

it should be in the same location as the 'Mail' folder see first image below.

  • Open Notepad
  • Copy paste all the text which is displayed between the lines below into Notepad.
  • Save the file as userChrome.css - note spelling - in the chrome folder.

see second image below

  • Restart Thunderbird and report back on results.

Please post a second image showing the options window, so I can compare result with your first image.
