I have noticed within the last few months that when I reply to an email, the original message shoots over to align to the right. When they reply back, my message to them is then aligned to the right. As far as I can see, I have it set up that everything should align to the left. Why does everything keep shooting over to the right and how can I stop this? Thanks

Screenshot please?

All correspondents and all correspondence?

What add-ons do you use? Does Thunderbird Safe Mode change the behaviour?

Hi Zenos

Thank you for replying.

No, not on all correspondence, seems to be one correspondent in particular but definitely on all correspondence with her. I think this has happened in the past with other contacts but this is the only one recently. Can't remember the previous contacts to go and check.

My add-ons are Stationery 0.8.0 and Test Pilot for Thunderbird 1.3.9.

I'm not entirely I.T. literate so don't wholly have confidence in my answers to you (sorry). I have no idea about Thunderbird Safe Mode, I didn't know they had one! Will Google it and try it now.

Many thanks again.

Tried Safe Mode and it doesn't make any difference.

re :Tried Safe Mode Please confirm you tried 'Thunderbird Safe Mode' and not computer safe mode. In thunderbird Help > Restart with Add-ons disabled

I'm wondering if the sender had originally created her signature using eg: MS Word and saved it as html file to add to signature in Thunderbird. Perhaps there is something in the HTML source which is changing the alignment. Need to compare the difference.

Select original email click on 'more' and select 'View Source' scroll down until you see this at the top: Content-Type: text/html; The section below will have html coding starting with 'html', 'head', 'title' ,'body', 'p', 'td', 'div' etc make sure the window shows all this section clearly down to '/html' (in chevons) Create an image of this. Do not try to paste info as the html will not show correctly.

then click on 'Reply' and save as draft. locate the draft and select it so you can see it in Message Pane. More > View Source Do the same - only need to see all code between 'html' and '/html'

Thank you Toad-Hall for your reply, I can confirm safe mode was in Thunderbird, not computer safe...

Can I just say that I created my signature in Word and used it in Thunderbird but this text alignment problem happens when corresponding with only a few contacts, probably about 4-5% - I don't know if that is relevant.

I made screen shots of all the info - the received HTML was 3 screen shots, the sent HTML 16! I have attached them all, hopefully they'll come through. I don't know if you were expecting this many.

I very much appreciate your help.

sorry for delay.

As you can see from the amount of html code, MSWord is adding a whole load of code that is not necessary. I have noticed that there are a couple of places that included an align to the right. p.MsoNormal at first only contains font, font size , bottom margin, but at the end of your section it changes the style definition to include align to right which then effects the additional section containing the reply because being also constructed in MSWord it is using the same naming conventions, so it continues to use the changed p.MsoNormal.

Both you and the original sender seem to be using MSWord.

There is really one straight forward method you need to try. Strongly advise that you do not use MSWord processing programs when creating html signatures that are not designed to be used in Word.

It is easy to do in Thunderbird itself.

Detach the current signature in Account Settings by unchecking 'Attach the signature from a file instead ' and click on OK.

Open a new Write message - it should not have any signature - it should open as a simple Write message window.

Do not bother with any Subject or 'TO' fields. click in the composing area and press enter to move to new line. Now add your signature. Type the greeting and name. Insert the curco image logo. then type the rest of the details and registered office information.

so it looks like your usual signature.

then 'Save as > File' choose where to save give file a suitable name make sure it is saved as type html.

then in Account Settings select to 'Attach the signature from a file instead ' click on 'choose' and locate the html file you just created. click on OK.

Open a new Write message to see signature.

then do a 'Reply' as before. this time it should align correctly. Please confirm this. If you check the View Source, you would see a considerable difference.
