How do I get the message header in the message header window to remain highlighted(in gray) when I click within the message so I can know which message I am replying to?

It should be doing that by default. It is for me atleast. Switch to the Light theme and check if the highlight is back.

That didn't work. Maybe the problem is that it is a Mac and you know how Apple hates programs that are more functional than their's that they didn't write or own a piece of.
