How to disable or change the Thunderbird start page

Every time you start Thunderbird, the message area will load your Mail Start Page. You can change the mail start page to any webpage, or set it to a blank page.

Change the start page

  1. At the top of the Thunderbird window, click the Tools menu and select OptionsIn the menu bar, click the Thunderbird menu and select PreferencesAt the top of the Thunderbird window, click the Edit menu and select Preferences, or click the menu button New Fx Menu fx57menu and choose OptionsPreferences.
  2. In the OptionsPreferences window, make sure the General panel is selected.
  3. In the Location field, enter the address of your desired start page.

  4. Click OK to close the Options window.Click Close to close the Preferences window.Close the Preferences window.

Set it to a blank page

  1. At the top of the Thunderbird window, click the Tools menu and select OptionsIn the menu bar, click the Thunderbird menu and select PreferencesAt the top of the Thunderbird window, click the Edit menu and select Preferences, or click the menu button New Fx Menu fx57menu and choose OptionsPreferences.
  2. In the OptionsPreferences window, make sure the General panel is selected.
  3. Disable When Thunderbird launches, show the start page in the message area.
  4. Click OK to close the Options window.Click Close to close the Preferences window.Close the Preferences window.

Restore the default start page

The default start page will welcome you to Thunderbird, provide information about Thunderbird, and provide links for how to get involved, where to donate, and where to get help.

  1. At the top of the Thunderbird window, click the Tools menu and select OptionsIn the menu bar, click the Thunderbird menu and select PreferencesAt the top of the Thunderbird window, click the Edit menu and select Preferences, or click the menu button New Fx Menu fx57menu and choose OptionsPreferences.
  2. In the OptionsPreferences window, make sure the General panel is selected.
  3. Make sure When Thunderbird launches, show the start page in the message area is enabled.
  4. Click the Restore Default button.
  5. Click OK to close the Options window.Click Close to close the Preferences window.Close the Preferences window.

Go to the start page any time

Click the menu button New Fx Menu fx57menu , open the Go menu and choose Mail Start Page.From the Go menu, choose Mail Start Page.
