How can I enable "recently used order" behavior when closing a tab?

Firefox has an option called "Ctrl+Tab cycles through tabs in recently used order". Unfortunately, this option does not change the behavior of what tab is activated when I close a tab.

Previously, one could use Tab Mix Plus to get this behavior, but this add-on is not compatible with Firefox 57.

Is there any way of getting this recently used behavior also after closing a tab with Firefox 57 (or later)?

(The reason why I want this change is due to temporal locality of human memory - the same reasoning why recently used order is better for tab switching also applies to tab closing. In fact, for me it is really confusing that closing tabs doesn't work the same way as switching tabs, and I get lost among open pages all the time.)
