How to delete incorrect autotyped email address for Amazon signin?

more options

When I am signing into Amazon.com and I start to type in my email address / user ID, the "autotype" feature shows an incorrect email address as one of the possibilities (I created this through an accidental typing error). I have tried everything I can think of to delete this "autotyped" item. It only shows up when signing into Amazon.com while using Firefox (Mac OSX), not when signing into Amazon.com using Safari and not when signing into any other site account that also uses my email address,... so, I think it is connected to the Firefox browser and not a Mac System Preferences item or an Amazon.com issue. Please help me delete this "autotyped" item. Thank you.

Chosen solution

Usually you can remove unwanted form autocomplete entries using the keyboard:

  • Start typing until the unwanted entry appears
  • Use the down arrow key to select the unwanted entry
  • Press Delete or Shift+Delete to delete that entry

If you want to do a more general clean-up on form entries, there are add-ons available. For example:

Form History Control https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/form-history-control/

There are some recent reviews complaining that it doesn't work as well as Lazarus for saving work-in-progress on forms you are currently filling, but I don't think there are any complaints about its ability to edit saved form history entries.

I forgot to mention our support article "Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms" has a section on this. It's the Delete key for Windows and Linux, and Shift+Delete for Mac.
