I copied and pasted a cell from a spreadsheet into a task and now I can't figure out how to get rid of it. There is a red box with the amount in it. I can delete the amount but the red box remains. This has been a problem for a long time and I was hoping someone had a solution. Thank you.

The red box would indicate you have pasted a table. Probably a one cell wide by one cell high table, but a table nonetheless. That is how spreadsheets work, in tables, so I am not surprised that is what it put into the clipboard to be pasted. Perhaps use Ctrl+Shift+V to paste only text instead of whatever is in the clipboard.

Once the table has no text in it you can select it like any other object and delete it with the delete key When selected it has little squares on the corners of the table cells

Thanks Matt. That solved it. I knew what the problem was but was having trouble figuring out how to select the table element. BTW, I'm not seeing the squares in the corner of the table element when I select it so was having trouble figuring out when it was actually selected. Got it now! Thanks again!
