mailto on browser page defaults in opening Thunderbird, but tied to old account - How can I fix this?

more options

In Firefox, on web pages which contain a mailto: link, clicking on that link automatically opens Thunderbird, with Write: and addressed To: the intended recipient; however, the From: is to my old email address and its related Thunderbird account. This default behavior needs to be fixed so that the From: is correctly filled in with my current email address and its associated Thunderbird account.

I've tried researching this issue from both possible sources; Firefox AND Thunderbird, but none of the knowledge base articles and forum postings related to either program have clearly addressed a solution. At this points it remains unknown which of these programs I need to focus on in order to correct the issue.

Thank you very much in advance for any assistance.

Kind regards,

Kelly

Thunderbird is separate from Firefox and it's own forum. For Thundergbird configuration that comes from your online email server to provide the setups changes for Thunderbird to work properly. Did you contact the online email provider to get the configuration setup for Thunderbird.

Also did you read these instructions:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manual-account-configuration

Also mailto is a Windows O/S configuration and that question should be posted to a Windows forum to reply back to how to configure.

Thank you for your reply and willingness to help. I was waiting for an email notice as I was informed that I was subscribed to this thread, but no such notice was ever delivered. It sounds like you may not be familiar with the behavior I described that is 1) initiated from Firefox then opening Thunderbird in response to any mailto: link present in an html document, and 2) when there are multiple email accounts. But I appreciate you taking the time anyway. - Kind regards, Kelly

Hi Kelly, could you check whether your preferred mail account is your default identity in Thunderbird?

menu > Account Settings

In the lower right corner of the screen for your main account, click the "Manage Identities..." button

If your preferred account for sending is not marked as the default identity, you should be able to change that here.

If you changed that, does it make any difference?
