Proton is crap. Low contrast high space and infuriatingly enlarged vs the old standard. Screens are getting larger but that means users are expecting more information on them not less. I actually reverted to either v88 over proton. Is the option to turn it off back yet or is still use custom css and hope they don't break that every update?

In FF93 there was a partial fix, pertaining to the bookmarks menus only. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1346810#answer-1448858

The "compact mode" option is "not supported": https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/compact-mode-workaround-firefox

I don't see Mozilla ever changing direction so you are stuck where you are unless you use userChrome.css. Many users do that now, mainly to position the tab bar where they want it.

I understand how you feel. I didn’t like where Firefox Quantum was going. So, I stopped updating at v54. So far, no real issues.

I have noticed, however, that some websites don't work properly.
