My email to a cell phone url is being returned by web master (I think) and says: WAP encoding error.

I can't find anything about wap encoding error on Thunderbird support or on the Internet .

Can somebody help me? Cell phone person uses Verizon for email and I use Vista Home. My email to this address always used to work properly. Would my settings be wrong or could something change them unbeknowns to me?

Please help.

Thank you.

Not sure what a 'cell phone url' is. In any case, I doubt Thunderbird can send messages to it.

You need to send the message to the recipients email address.

That's what I meant by URL (email address) -guess you might call that local language :) Sorry.

Is 'wap encoding error!' the entire error message?
Please be precise.

Do you get this error as an email message or a pop-up in Thunderbird?

Christl,

I get message in email from the postmaster @ verizon.net

Jim.

So the problem is with Verizon. It has got nothing to do with your Thunderbird, and there is nothing you can do, unless something is wrong with the recipients email address itself.

I'd suggest you have the recipient check with Verizon what the problem is.

Christl,

I have asked her to contact verizon and hope I know tomorrow. You know how difficult it is to make telephone contact with a verizon live person! I'll post another reply with her answer Sunday. Thanks again. Jimee.

here is a Verizon thread on the WAP error, most informative about ensuring UTF-8 is the encoding (apparently anything and Verizon barfs) https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/47101

Christl and Matt,

Thanks for your help. My Mobile user checked her settings and all were okay. However, I checked my own settings and found when I set them to send email in "plain text" that my messages were sent and worked without any returned email! I had tried that UTF-8 and it worked for one time only as I recall. I think that setting would not remain and went back to Western encoding. Not sure of this tech stuff though! In any event my email is working just fine now and I do appreciate you guys helping me out. Seems to me that such an important problem should be included in Verizon's Help or highlighted somewhere for an easier find for any future same thunderbird problems. Surely thunderbird support should hilight it and paste it all over their help pages!

Thanks again to all. Jimee.

Addendum to my previous post- I must apologize to Matt. I just checked my settings again and found that my Incoming encoding IS set to UTF-8. How about that!

Sorry Matt. Thanks again. Hope all is permanent!

Jimee.

You'll need to set 'Unicode (UTF-8)' for your outgoing mail.
