When data were transferred from my vista computer to the new windows 7 computer, the profile on firefox was not transferred to the new computer. Because the profile wasn't transferred, profile manager or just typing in the default location don't give a result. All the info on the mozilla web site that I've looked at dealing with profiles don't seem to work. I can probably retrieve and make a copy of the profile from the old computer, but how do I find out where to put it on the new one??

Chosen solution

Try to delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new profiles.ini file and a new default profile.

hello, you can just copy the "%appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\" folder structure on your old computer & migrate that to the same place on your new win7 one (you might have to overwrite the current contents when you've already created a new profile on the new pc).

The problem is that, when I run the firefox installer, it DOESN'T create a blank profile. I did run the firefox profile manager to create a new profile, but then, using the search function I couldn't find it again, so that I could copy in the old profile from my old computer. I must admit I'm a bit frustrated.

OK, new try, I found the following: "C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles" but firefox STILL claims that my profile is missing, and won't boot up. The "Profiles" found is the one I copied over from the old computer. Would taking a hammer to the computer help any???"  :-)

Thank you, thank you, thank you - I've been pulling my hair out and using language that I wouldn't want my grandkids to hear. It worked.

THANK YOU
