Hi hannidan, your Firefox identified itself as version 17, which probably is no longer covered by our Knowledge Base articles.

In Firefox 4-28, you had a choice between the classic menu bar (File, Edit, View...), or an orange button that says Firefox which displays a compact menu when you click it. You should be able to use either of those to find the Help menu and click About Firefox.

Also, before you update, I suggest making a backup of your current settings folder "just in case." The easiest way is to copy your entire profile folder to a safe location. To access that folder, you can paste this into the Windows 7 Start menu search box and press Enter:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

There might only be one folder there, or there might be more than one. Your currently active folder will have recently updated files in it.
