How do I add an address book other than the "personal address book"?

more options

My personal address book contains only people associated with our homeowners association. I would like to create other books such as family, friends, golf groups, etc. I have not been able to find a way to do this. It seems like the only options are the personal address book and the collected address book.

The 2 address books that you list are the default books for Thunderbird. You can add more if you wish.

Open the address book window. From the Menu Bar select File-New-Address Book

In the Address Book, File|New|Address Book.

I guess your problem really is that you can't see the menu where this can be found. Hold down alt, tap f for file.

We're not supposed to need the menu ; there's a newfangled Application Menu hiding behind a button with three horizontal lines. The trouble is that it isn't visible in all the different windows. Whilst I rarely use it myself, I like to have it to hand so I can check how it can be used. To this end, I have moved it to the tab bar alongside the icons for the calendar, which is arranged to be always visible.

Under the Application Menu, look for New Messages, click that and I think you'll find the new address book option too.
