Where's the refresh icon and tabs difficult to distinguish

I use the refresh icon fairly often and now it's gone. Not in the Customize Menu or anywhere else.

The tabs at the top are difficult to read, they all blend together in one long line, is there a way to better differentiate them one from another?

I looked at the Classic Theme Restorer, will that allow me to put FF back to the way it was yesterday? What does beta mean?

Your Reload button is sitting right where it was in Firefox 28, in the far right edge of the URL / Location bar.

Hi jscher 2000,

I don't have the time right now to look at Stylish, but I certainly will soon. Looks like it will help with the faint tab separators.

Hi John,

What is RSS? I've seen it before but I don't have the slightest idea what it means. I see the subscribe to this page in parenthesis but that doesn't mean anything to me either.

And I'm not sure what the rest of your post means. I get lost pretty easy in, what are to me, technical terms.

Thanks, Bernadine

Bernadine -

Try the Colorful Tabs add-on. It's essential.

Hi Jeffereson,
No as I said it is almost impossible to see.

On a page like this if I put the mouse pointer over it the background becomes a light colour and it can be seem. On a page without a feed there is no change only the tooltip.

I attach a screenshot. That has the mouse pointer over the icon, but it is not captured neither is the tooltip as soon as the pointer is moved the icon is as in the previous attached screenshot.

If I move the rss icon onto the bookmarks toolbar then it does change according to whether there is a feed present it is dark like the menu button when there is a feed it is light like the reload icon if there is no feed. So it functions as expected on the bookmarks toolbar but not on the tabs bar.

As to be expected, the scroll arrowheads for the tab bar of course may not be moved off the tabs bar; neither will the list all tabs arrowhead.

This screenshot is From a distro build, but the previous screenshot was a Mozilla nightly in a clean profile. The issue may be Linux related but is not a problem with the distro build of Firefox.

Hi Bernadine,

The problem with the RSS icon is not something you need to be concerned with if you do not use it. I mentioned it because to me it seems to be a design flaw in the new look Firefox 29.

The RSS feed is one method of following things like posts on this forum. Effectively it checks and adds any new post as a bookmark under an RSS dropdown

Hi Nardar,

I like the looks of ColorfulTabs but when I found it on FF Add Ons, the message said it was an old version. Screen shot provided. So I went to the link to the new version but when I downloaded it, it had an unusual extention .xpi and I don't know what to do with that. One of the messages below says it's not working with FF 29 which is what I have.

Any help is appreciated, Bernadine

.xpi files are easy to install, but I would be wary of something that was on the official addons site and you are now only finding it elsewhere. You could get malware doing that.

Even if someone has an external independent site they may normally be expected to continue hosting the addon on the addons site.

It is still on the official FF addons site and given high praise. The link is to the newest version on the developers site. Should I wait until FF has it on their page? If it's OK to do it now from his site, would you tell me how to install the .spi file? Picture included.

Thanks, Bernadine

Yes that should be ok to install, as long as you note the comments about known issues .

Just it may be experimental and not work well. Also read the notes on the developer's site about known issues.

There is more than one method of installing .xpi addons. Often to install the .xpi file just download it and have it somewhere you can find it, then open the downloaded file with Firefox. For instance right click and use the option to open with Firefox, then follow any prompts to install.

Thanks for the info Bob. I reread the issues and to do section more slowly and carefully and I think I will wait until it comes to the FireFox website. I too would rather be safe than sorry. Maybe too then it won't be an .xpi file, I've done enough learning about computers, I really want to get to do something else than ask for help figuring out some problem, I'd rather be sewing!

Thanks, Bernadine

EASY to customize? Really? OK, so how do we "easily" change the width of the location window? Why can't I put a "reload" button next to the 'forward/back' arrows? Why can't I move the location bar? Why did it take two days to find a solution as to why the "spaces" and "separator" option disappeared from the pool of icons from which I can choose?

I couldn't find the refresh icon either but thanks to the replies above I now can. But I still miss the text labels bigtime. If I am to understand all the above, by using the addon we could again get the text labels back. But then it sounds like its not safe/recommended to use the addon?

I find this all so frustrating. Yesterday I had a wonderful firefox browswer. Today I am spending all my time trying to figure out how to use it!

Hi dano88, the Classic Theme Restorer extension is used by thousands of people, so I consider it safe to try. It's always possible that it will interact badly with other extensions, or that it could allow changes which make the interface less functional, but I haven't seen any problem reports along those lines yet.

I did find a bug about part of my problem

Hi John99, I would hope the RSS icon "lights up" in some manner on a page that advertises an RSS feed such as this one. Otherwise, it may go completely unnoticed.

Bug 994623 - Australis: Invert icons in the tabstrip and menubar on Ubuntu

I noticed a few other bugs about tabs visibility but did not try to work out which were relevant and active.
