At least a portion of he crash reports do get logged. Bugs are sometimes filed directly from some of those. They are very useful and are analysed. Mozilla just fails to make it clear the user needs to do more.

I think it is rather a failing of Mozilla that it is not made clear that you need to contact support yourself; as you have now done. There is an email sent out about some of the crash report submissions but that IMO

is not yet good enough as it is not personalised, and does not even give you a link to your own cash reports ! I doubt anything will change unless users cotton on to that and start complaining.

Most users will think submitting crash report is all they need to do and they will then sit back in blissful ignorance expecting a fix.

The embryonic Firefox Health Report may at some stage improve awareness of this. Knowing the number of Crash Reports I am not too sure this help forum will actually cope if users all become aware they should ask about a crash.

• This is not advised. (Other than for temporary test purposes preferably on virtual machine). It is unsafe to use an old version of Firefox and the recommendation would be to use another browser that is up-to-date.

• An unofficial temporary solution that is at least safe and secure would be to install Firefox ESR portable as an additional browser.
  • use http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox-portable-esr
  • This is not a Mozilla product, although it does use a standard and secure Firefox. The special Firefox version used (FX17 based) is secure but intended for corporate use. Mozilla will not recommend such action

I am curious as to how and why you installed conduit. I did mention this above

you expect a crash after 3 hrs?? oh my lordy i have been blessed before then normally mine run for 15+ hrs straight never a hiccup 

My comment you replied to was merely a guestimate based on the fact that in the thread title you say my firefox is crashing over4 times a day and a presumption that you would not use Firefox for 24 hrs a day

Cor-el linked you to the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article. Did you follow the steps there? Looking through your responses, I can't tell if you've followed those steps.

It's most likely that an add-on isn't handling a change in the latest update correctly and is causing the crash.

Did you try to run Firefox in Safe Mode.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

i had some time this afternoon and sat down to really nut this thing out ....................................

i ran every scan i had no malicious stuff on my computer but i pretty much knew that im very careful what i click usually so next step i tried was since i dont store anything much on firefox ( no themes no nothing ) i figured i had pretty much nothing to lose by resetting it so thats what i did :)

and since then i have not had it freeze up on me at all not even a little bit.

fingers crossed i hope i have fixed it :) if i have had no freezes by tomorrow night i will come back and mark as solved :)

If the reset works that is great.

But safemode may also have worked and so could a new profile. You may need to be careful after the reset that you do not undo whatever change it was that caused the problem.

The reset is a great simple method for fixing things.

The only problem is the user does not immediately discover what part of the reset changes was the critical factor.

I did ask previously; upthread, and in reply to your pm; about the conduit plugin. I tend to associate that with bundled and potentially unwanted software. Unfortunately your question did not include the extensions listing, so we do not know what extensions you had and what is now uninstalled by the reset.

I do not know if you even have any use for or deliberately installed the conduit plugin, but the Firefox reset will not have removed that.

i have nothing on firefox now not that i had heaps before i use it for facebook and nothing else i know sad lol but facebook is my life :)

resetting it has caused me other problems but no more freezing or crashing as yet lol

i just looked at my plugins and that conduit is no longer there so it appears that a reset does remove it ...............ok in my case it did

Your original question's "More system details" list only shows Installed Plug-ins (which includes "Conduit Plugin") not Firefox extensions. However, crash reports do list Extension IDs. The Extensions tab in each of your listed crash reports show the following:

on #2, {96f454ea-9d38-474f-b504-56193e00c1a5} I found THIS, which I'm copying below:

uTorrentControl_v6 Toolbar - a Conduit "Community Toolbar" - redirects searches to search.conduit.com. Conduit toolbars are also reputed to have a certain trackware functionality and will often come bundled with various third party software - remove unless you wittingly installed it and intend it to be there.

So, one of your Firefox extensions was also related to conduit. Extensions are normally stored in the Firefox profile folder and a Firefox Reset essentially creates a new profile without any added extensions, which could be why the Firefox (Tools) Add-ons -> Extensions list no longer lists conduit. However, the Add-ons -> Plugins list should still show installed plugins.

Unlike extensions, plugins are likely to be installed globally and most of them are found by Firefox via the Windows Registry. A Firefox reset does not remove installed plugins ... unless they were installed in the Firefox profile folder which is unusual but could be possible (see How Gecko Finds Plug-ins - MDN). If so, then the Old Firefox Data folder that was placed on your desktop after the reset would include the conduit plugin.

I checked the one crash report that wasn't empty, https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/c7258539-16b8-4421-a9e8-6db182130904 and it lists this conduit plugin on the Modules tab:

npConduitFirefoxPlugin.dll 10.16.0.0

...So, If that plugin is indeed missing from about:plugins and from the Firefox (Tools) Add-ons -> Plugins list, then you could search your computer for it or look inside the Desktop "Old Firefox Data" folder, if you're curious.
