Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

1. Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
2. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
3. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
4. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
5. Now click the Clear now button.

Thanks for the quick offer of help. I cleared my history, cache and cookies, then tried Google, but landed in Facebook again. I put down the browser, started it back up and tried again to no avail. Facebook still coming up when I want Google.

Go to RUN and type ipconfig /flushdns

I flushed the DNS and tried Google. Still Facebook. I restarted Firefox, entered Google -- and got Google!

Well, I spoke too soon. I was doing some research and doing a Google search, and when I clicked on one of the search results, it took me to Facebook. Clicked on a second search result, same thing.

This is all the more strange because my Gmail has been up and running all this time and, like I said earlier, I was able to get to Google Finance through the URL line.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• Microsoft Safety Scanner
• MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
• TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

I have Trend Micro Internet Security keeping guard at all times. I just installed and ran MalwareBytes. Found one suspicious file. Rebooted. Everything seems fine -- for now. Will keep the thread advised if the problem recurs. Also, I did a HijackThis scan and don't see anything obviously suspicious, as in some Facebook spyware.

Here I am two days later, experiencing the same problem. It is very sporadic. Most of the time, Google is fine; I refresh and move around in Google Finance, and I do Google searches with no problem. Then, out of the blue, trying to go to Google takes me to Facebook (a "Page Not Found" in Facebook). I don't have a Facebook account. My wife does, but accesses it mainly from an iPad.

It does seem to me to be a mischievous act on the part of spyware. But has anyone else experienced this problem? I'd like to know how others cured it.

Apparently this problem stems from the Linksys WRT160N wireless router that serves a number of devices in my house. Quite a few people are having the problem of landing in MySpace, Google, etc. when they're trying to go to Facebook (the opposite of what I'm dealing with) or landing in Blogger when going to Twitter. People on the Cisco (maker of Linksys) help board have offered solutions that involve changing the router IP address, but it's not clear from other posts -- and the lack of follow-up posts -- that this is a slam-dunk solution. I'm reluctant to mess with my router settings just to solve an occasionally irritating problem. If it gets worse, I'm just going to replace my router.
