I absolutely cannot get past the "next" button when syncing (it's greyed out)
This is most frustrating!
I've read past posts on this topic, and can only conclude that people gave up.
I've:
- turned off private browsing (my default mode) - restarted Firefox in safe mode - reset my Sync password
NOTHING WORKS! It's October 2012, and all the other posts on this topic are closed. Completely bizarre. Trying to set up my new desktop, and cannot keep all the bookmarks/settings etc. from my old desktop. Windows-to-Windows.

Did you copy files like prefs.js and the password files (key3.db and signons.sqlite) from the old profile (computer) to the current profile folder?
Resetting he Sync password should be working now that the bug from the previous week got fixed.
Are you entering user name (email) and password and sync key manually via the "I don't have the device with me" link?
What??? I'm supposed to copy files first? no, I *followed the directions* for using Firefox Sync.
I reset the password. All of this yesterday - I know nothing about "last week's bug."
No, I'm not using the "I don't have the device with me" link. I have the devices (both) right here: 2 desktops. Both connected to the same monitor. I switch back and forth, and I've got 6 crossed-out sets of codes that have not worked, trying to get the new one to have all the same stuff as the old one.
I'm moving from Win XP Pro to Win7 Pro. This just cannot be rocket science... I get to the "next" button after entering my email address and password, and the "next" button is greyed out. I choose "Sync Options" (as one poster suggested) and uncheck "History" for example, to see if that somehow activates the "next" button on the screen but no dice.
No, you aren't supposed to copy files.
I asked that because copying files might have caused the problems.
You need t have Sync installed on at least one computer if you want to add extra devices.
Did you try to enter the name and password and sync key instead if using the short (12 character) code isn't working?
"Installed"? Boy, I'm confused.
How do I "install" Sync onto a PC? I thought it was just gonna grab my stuff and throw it on the Mozi-Cloud. So I could download it onto my other PC.
Are we talking about Firefox Sync options in the "tools, options" portion?
I have a Sync account. In fact, I reset (changed) the password on it (see post #1) yesterday.
I don't understand the last part... how can I sync without getting past the 12 char code? I don't get to a screen that asks for name & password until AFTER I enter the code.
Sorry, I meant to have setup Sync. Sync is part of Firefox, so you do not need to install it.
You can enter the account name (email address) and password and the Sync key.
- open "Tools > Options > Sync" or "Firefox > Set Up Sync"
- click "Set Up Firefox Sync" to go to "Firefox Sync Setup"
- click "I Have an Account" : Connect
- click "I don't have the device with me" at the bottom to enter the account settings
- click the "Sync Options" button at the bottom to select what to sync

That still didn't work.
I can do all 5 steps. I can choose/unchoose what to sync. It gives me a warning screen about how many tabs/bookmarks/etc. will be changed. I click done. Nothing. Returns me to the screen with the greyed out "next" button.

OK, I fixed it. I created a whole new account, and after some fiddling, I was able to sync, and have the new PC pick up the old PC bookmarks.
SHWEW! That was hard.
