History - had Firefox 7 upgrade and had problems with ebay, they sent me a link to upload Firefox 6.0 which I did and it worked. However the next day I clicked on my Firefox icon and 'nothing' it will not open even if I right click and select open. I have tried to delete it and even upgrade to Firefox 7 through Internet Explorer but am told I need to close Firefox before I can do this. I have deleted of my exceptions list on my firewall and re-instated via the browser (as Firefox help page suggested) but I still cannot get it to open. In my list of programs it say I have Firefoz 7.0.1.4288 created 10/9/11

I hope that link points to mozilla.com or mozilla.org

You will have to close firefox.exe with the Windows Task Manager from the "Processes" tab of the WTM since you don't have a widow to close.

The best way to close Firefox is through File > Exit, for those who stuck with the "Firefox" button click on the Firefox button then Exit. It is not perfect but it is a lot better than just closing the window with the "X" in the upper right corner

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I have been at my laptop most of the day trying to fix this!! ...What a donut! I did however have to remove the program and reinstall it before it worked, but at least I was able to do that once I had ended the process, so I thank you again.

I have been at my laptop even longer and was excited to read dmcritchie's suggestion. Didn't work. Mozilla icon won't open browser, trying to remove it through control panel tells me I have to close it first, trying to reinstall 7.0.1 over it tells me I have to close it first.... What now?

Check all the processes in the Task Manager...I had firefox running 3 times, once I stoped and deleted them all I was able to remove the program Firefox, then re install it through Internet Explorer. Sorry if you HAVE checked all of the processes, it was just a thought cause I had 3 open. Good luck it is sooooo frustrating!
