I suspect its because of the FF6 update because that's when this started. my web activity freezes for 30+ seconds randomly and frequently. the entire browser locks up. cant switch tabs, open a menu, nothing. I usually refrain from proceeding with updates for several months or as long as I can hold out, so that all the bugs get worked out, but this last update from 5 to 6 was either an accidental click or by force. all I know is I THOUGHT I clicked an ok to open the browser and just like that it updated. I'd rather roll back to 5.0 but cannot find info on that option. any help out there as to the locking up problem or the roll back to 5.0? I combed the help info but didnt find existing specifics. thanks very much.

I found the roll back feature to ff5 but now that hasnt seemed to help. my browser still freezes. this is becoming incredibly frustrating because its happening every few minutes now. I cant get the program to stop asking me to make changes on my system every time I open it, I keep accidentally clicking that ANNOYING yes button rather than no, and keep accidentally upgrading to 6. and, when it first accidentally upgraded to 6 - I will add that all of my fonts in all of my email programs changed to size TINY and no longer differentiates what's read and what is unread - in both my yahoo mail and my aol mail. what the heck got jacked in my system with the ff6 upgrade??? my streaming videos are freezing, my online gaming is freezing, my browsing is freezing.....and even typing this message here right now, it froze. grrrrrrrr

I thought I would also add that out of continued frustration, I finally opened internet explorer and have been using that for an hour or so and its been running flawlessly. all of my email program fonts have returned to normal legible size, as well as the font sizes and styles on my home page. so I have, thus far, determined it is in fact a problem with something planted by the firefox 6 upgrade/update - and doesnt go away when rolling back to version 5.

I've had the same problem. Oftentimes, Firefox will freeze and the spinning wheel will appear (along with the "Not Responding" up in the title bar), and then it will disappear, presumably meaning the problem is fixed, and then when I try to go and do what I was wanting to do in the first place, it freezes right back up again. I do think it was an automatic update, and I thought it was happening ever since I was forced to upgrade to Windows 7 by my company's IT department, since my previous computer had Windows XP and Firefox 3.6, and I have not had this problem on my Mac.

Yeah, I've been having similar issues. Each time it happens, it lasts for about a minute. Afterwards, I can go on and do other things for a while, but it doesn't last long, and I get another minute-long stall. This happens on every website. It wasn't easy to find the report that matched my complaints exactly, so I'm worried that this is only a problem with a few people. It even stalled while typing this...

I have this problem and it always happens when I right-click, every time.

I finally fixed mine. here's what I did. first I disabled all the plug-ins and add-ons. weird unidentifiable ones had appeared on my list and I dont know where they came from. then I happened upon an article in a magazine that recommended http://tweaknow.com/ for removing "bloatware". meaning, all the garbage that gets hidden by pop ups, uninstalled programs, and various other invasive stuff you dont want in your registry. I've tried other registry clean-up programs, even one supplied by my a/v company, that didnt work. this one did. its fairly automatic and takes a while, but my system now runs like a charm (including FF), and it also returned me back to my classic browser pages that had also been altered. Select tweaknow powerpack 2011 SP3b and download from the top menu bar (not the spam banners above and next to it). after d/l complete, just open it up and let 'er rip and go find something else to do. after its all done cleaning, it will give you a descriptive menu with what it found that should be removed. I took a deep breath and crossed my fingers and clicked okay. just like that, my FF was fixed. cant speak highly enough of it, and its free.
