When saving a PDF, how to avoid a re-dl'd - when it is in *already* in the cache
G'day Folks,
I refer to a PDF - but this applies to anything which has already been received and is thus in the local cache...
When I choose to save a PDF, FF re-downloads the file.
Why? ... that just wastes bandwidth. NB: I am on dialup and such activity can be *very* annoying & unnecesary. Especially when the PDF (or whatever) is quite large.
Of course, some will argue that the (PDF) file may have been updated in the meantime - and the (very) latest version should thus be downloaded.
However, I believe that is (a) highly unlikely and (b) should, in any case, be a user choice.
I have searched for a switch/option to modify this crazy behaviour - but can't find one. Have I missed it ..? If so, *please* tell me where.
If this crazy behaviour cannot be changed, is there an app which will allow the user to examine the cache and save the PDF... ie: independently of FF's "save as"?
Many Thanks Barry

I can partially answer my own question .. ie: workarounds.
But if anyone knows how to handle this without workarounds, I'd appreciate a post please.
Alternatives/workarounds:
1. Type "about:cache" into the FF url box - and it will show a list of cached items.
It is then necessary to search for what you require - which may not always be so obvious.
The location on your (local) HD should then be available/visible.
2. Use a (free) standalone program, eg: MozillaCacheView - Nir Sofer
<http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mozilla_cache_viewer.html>
Option 2 may be the easiest - but is not ... 'integrated', so the usual caveats apply.
