When searching on a page using the Firefox FIND function, it skips the the search query on the results page if it is in a link. Example: using Bing, Google, Yahoo etc, I search for 'airplane' (no quotes). On the results page, I search for airplane. The Firefox FIND function skips the word 'airplane' if it is in a link. It finds it if it is plain text. I used safe mode, cleared the cache - no good. Updated 3 addons that needed it. Checked the list of troublesome addons - none of mine are on it. I reset it to defaults- no good. Then I copied localstore.rdf and prefs.js to another location and renamed the ones in the profile. When I restarted Firefox the problem was gone but so where my addons (thats all I noticed; I still had my my bookmarks). Then I changed the 2 files back to their original names. My bookmarks were back but so was the problem. Using 3.6.17

No problem here as long as I can see the text Highlight all also finds all occurrences.

Make sure that Match case doesn't have a check mark (Ctrl + F or Edit > Find)

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

The problem persists in Safe Mode. I am using the default theme. I disabled all my plugins, no change. I disabled all my addons, no change. I guess the only things left are reset my preferences, then do a reinstall. After I reset my preferences, is there a way to restore my bookmarks, bookmark toolbars etc, or do I have to start from scratch?

Is that text visible or is it part of the URL of a link and not as text visible on the page?

You may need to open the page source in the latter case.

It skips the word if it is in a URL. It finds it if it is plain text. Its all right there. Try it yourself - google something and on the results page, use find to look for a word that is in one of the URLs. It wont miss one.
