how do I stop the adding of all email addresses received in a message to my address book?

When I receive an email, all the addresses in the incoming email are added to my address book. As a result I get email addresses added of people I don't even know. I want to stop that.

This feature doesn't exist in Thunderbird's default settings. Probably you are confusing it with the following default setting in Settings > Composition > Addressing > ✓ Automatically add outgoing email addresses to my : Collected Addresses (see image)
