Is there any way to get the feature "open image in new tab" instead of "show image"?? This is really annoying.

There isn't a built-in option for that.

I hold down the Ctrl key when clicking View Image to direct it to a new tab. I realize that's an extra step, but since I hold down Ctrl to open links in a new tab, it's feels pretty natural for me.

There's probably an add-on to make it a one-click operation, but add-on menu items are further down, so that might not be convenient, either.

Note that you can also middle-click "View Image" apart from Ctrl + left-click to open the image in as new tab.

In the latest beta "View Image", which is used by so many people who work with images, has been removed and "View Image in New Tab" has been put in its place.

If you wanted to view an image in a new tab a simple middle-click would have done the trick. For those of us who needed the "View Image" item in the context menu I sure hope someone writes an Addon to get that functionality back.

I cannot begin to tell you how my workflow has been interrupted.

Hi jeffinputnam, it probably would make sense to start a new thread for the Firefox 88 change.

But since we're both here:

What is your workflow that works better with viewing the image in the same tab?

The problem with an extension is that its item will be toward the bottom of the menu. (It's possible for an extension to display a button bar when hovering an image so you can view it in a single click, but this requires more permissions than you might want to grant.)

Is there a way to go back to view image with a right click.... open image in a new tab sucks..... if this can't be corrected or a workaround written in i will probably uninstall and reinstall a previous version....

You are running Beta, Developer, or Nightly? The regular release won't be there for a few weeks, so using Firefox 87 could be a temporary workaround. However, someone may come up with another workaround that reduces the disruption of potentially rebuilding your profile.

I too would also like the view image on the same tab, rather than a new tab, this adds an additional step of having to close out the last tab as well for me. This may sound like a simple thing, but when you're dealing with hundreds of images it adds up. Is there any way to have an option that lets you choose how viewing images is handled? A toggle that lets you open it in the current tab, or a new tab. Having to roll back to 87 for now.

I haven't found one. And I appreciate that add-ons for this put the menu item near the bottom instead of near the top, which is less convenient.
