Hi Ben, the context menu has a web search item, so you could search the selected text, but it uses your default search engine (for example, Google), and not a dictionary. You could consider installing an add-on if you see a promising one on the Add-ons site. This one came up in a search: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/dictionary-anyvhere/ (part of the Recommended program).
