Recently switched from Chrome back to Firefox but having a small problem with Youtube vidoes that never happened when using chrome.

Videos default playback at usual 1080p but after a while and you jump to another time section of a video the quality will auto drop down to 320p for no reason. It doesn't happen all the time but seems to be happening more and more.

I have tried with no added installed and a fresh profile but still the same.

Link to the video? Sounds like driver issue is causing that.

It happens on nearly every video I try. Just tested right now and it happened on this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmBYnXhwmLk

Also tested with onboard audio enabled instead of my USB Dac but the same. Only happens on Firefox since I swapped over from Chrome.

Could there possibly be memory issues? You can check this on the about:memory page, via the location bar.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Tried it in safe mode but the problem still exists.

I even tried deleting my profile and a clean install of Firefox but it still happens.

I can get it to happen all the time when trying a live video, after 30seconds to a few minutes the video will auto change quality from the set 1080p to 360p then after a minute of that the "A error has occurred. Please try again later"

Tried the exact same live video in other browsers (Chrome and Edge) which work perfectly.
