My Firefox location bar isn't autofilling with commonly visited sites

My location bar used to autofill with my most commonly visited sites, but it doesn't anymore. It autofills with websites that I've visited before, but not ones that I visit daily for the most part. For example, if I type in "ma" it will autofill with "mail.google.com", which is what I want. However, when I type in "es", it's always filled in with "espn.go.com". Now it fills with "esavealifenow.com". Or, if I type in "ne", it will fill with a different website than the one I typically go to. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the way that it chooses to autofill. It's more of an annoyance than anything. I've checked the help articles, and made sure that I have checked the boxes for the location bar suggestions, so I know it isn't that. It literally went from working one day to not the next. I'm not sure what changed. I've got Firefox 44.0.2.

Unfortunately, that article did not solve the problem. None of the settings were different from what it suggested already, and none of my plug-ins are causing an issue. Thank you, though!

If you hover your mouse over the address bar and click the downward pointing triangle on the right end, does it populate with the expected frequently visited sites?

If you check the Library dialog ("Show All History"), does it seem that you have all your history or has a bunch of it been lost?

On "Show All History" everything seems to be there, but when I click the downward pointing triangle, it seems like a few of the frequently visited sites, and a few of some other sites that I visit semi-regularly. When I checked my new tab screen, it was the same thing as the downward pointing arrow, some of my frequently visited, and some of the semi-regularly visited (once a week or so).

Firefox computes a score based on several factors: frequency of visits, recency of visits, whether you used a bookmark or typed the address, and other things.

But I think the in-URL-bar autofill logic is somewhat different. (I turned that feature off because I found it annoying, so I don't have many personal observations to share.)

It's one of those deals that isn't a big deal, more something that I was trying to figure out- the suddenness of the change from one day to the next was weird. It's not like it hurts me to type more in to get to the website. I just thought that I might see if anyone knew what was happening.
