I love the Reader Mode option and I would like to have my web pages open automatically in this mode. Can this be done?

If you mean opening all links from a specific page in reading mode then I don't think that this is possible. I think that the Reader extension I mentioned above should make it easier to switch to reading mode. I also supports a keyboard shortcut.

Thanks FredMcD & cor-el, I have been off-line for a few days (no internet connection) so I couldn't reply earlier.

Unfortunately none of these solved my issue. I looked extensively before posting and couldn't see anything that did the trick. I thought that someone here may had come across a solution. Maybe it is a job for a developer to write an add-on. Well beyond the skills of this little black duck. Thanks for the suggestions.

You can use this keyword bookmark to open a link in reading mode:

  • about:reader?url=%s

Thanks cor-el, but I am unsure as to what I do with this. I am not that computer savvy.

As a way of example. I read a lot of newspaper sites (e.g. www.smh.com.au). This takes me to their home page, but this home page does not support reader mode. However if I click on a news article - then the reader mode is enabled. I would like to be able go straight to reader mode whenever I click on any such articles.

If I am reading the link you sent me correctly, then I would need to do this for every news article link. Am I reading this right? If so then this would defeat the purpose, when I can simply click on the reader mode when I arrive at the article.

It is only one click and not a biggie. I just thought there was some shortcut or add-on that was available that did this sort of thing for the non-computer literate, such as myself.

Thanks cor-el, that confirms what I suspected, but I thought I would ask the question anyway.

The AutoReaderView addon indicates that it will automatically load up a page in reader view if it is available for that page. This automated mode can be toggled off or on.
