Since I usually use Bookmarks or pinned tabs, it may be a week or more since I last tried to do this, but when I tried today the Address bar box is there but completely empty and the box edging seems to be missing at the left end and along the bottom. Mouse arrow does not change to a cursor when hovered over the box and I cannot enter typing.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

This test revealed that one of my extensions was not fully compatible with the latest Firefox update, and I even found a note saying the author is aware of the problem and is working on a solution.
