Version 39.0 updates daily, yet About... shows no new number?

Almost daily (?) I get a slider in announcing that there is a new version or update. I click on it to read, and the window opens to version 39.0 update. Were I to check the Firefox "About", the version reads "39.0, Firefox is up to date, You are currently on the beta update channel"...? So, are these updates not following a numbering sequence? How do I know these updates are not some intrusion, etc.?

  1. 2. IS there a way to get away from the Beta, just in case? Should I?

Thank you! - most appreciated!

The current Beta build is the next Firefox 39.0 release (39.0 RC) that will be released next week (Tuesday) if all is well, so you won't be getting any new updates on the Beta update channel until the switch to Firefox 40 later next week (likely Friday).

There have been 5 builds so far and that can explain the many updates you have received.

That is so neat! Thank you!

Firefox 39.0 is not a Release yet (next Tuesday June 30 if all goes well) so depending on where you downloaded from it was likely the first Release Candidate build at time. Some download sites jump the gun in claiming a RC or even a Beta Build of Firefox version as a Release.
