I have to turn this feature OFF but FF updated itself to 38.01 and I've had MULTIPLE problems. I see there are solutions however I do NOT have the time to even manipulate hardware acceleration.

BTW, I sent for my user name (which I'd forgotten) 45 minutes ago and it still has not arrived...

I do not even KNOW the version prior to 38.01 but it was stable.

Dell vostra LAPTOP (wireless) XP pro sp3 AVAST! free version (2014.9.0.2021) EPSON WF 545 printer (on the network).

MAIN PROBLEM IS TRYING TO PRINT: (Other programs do print) Printer's s/w U-T-D (Symptom => crashing....)

PLEASE ADVISE on how to obtain older ff versions. Thank you so much!

P.S. I have now spent another 15 minutes looping to try and ask this question.

Thank you because the renaming worked. But it won't print.

I think that's what we expected rolling back to your old settings.

If you have not already tried Firefox's Refresh feature, please try that next. This article describes what you can expect will be stripped out: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

I renamed the wrong folder (Under APP DATA not under PROGRAM FILES.)

So I have 1 UNCHANGED: (program files

    MOZILLA FIREFOX

2. D and S [... APP DATA ...]

   MOZILLA
        FIREFOX
              crash reports
               profiles:
                      originalstring.default
                      new string.default
        OLD FIREFOX
                C.R.
                 PROFILES
                       originalstring.default

I don't know what order to do this in etc. The only residual change I made was moving the originalstring.default profile into the APP DATA \ moz firefox \ profile folder.

I will just wait....

Thank you - I really appreciate your help, expertise and patience.

It appears the new \Firefox\Profiles folder has your regular profile and probably is working normally (well, with the same problem you had before). If that's true, no renames are needed at the moment.

Since the "new string" profile doesn't have the problem:

One possibility at this point would be to start copying files from the "original string" profile to the "new string" profile. Initially, you will need: places.sqlite (bookmarks and history). The support article lists other files to copy over if relevant (e.g., if you use Firefox to store passwords).

Alternately, you could try a Refresh. That will reset most customized preferences and remove your extensions, but should retain bookmarks, open tabs, and saved passwords. The full details are in this article: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

No it does not have my regular profile. I renamed the wrong Firefox folder. I renamed the folder under APPLICATION DATA\ MOZILLA \ FIREFOX I had renamed IT TO: OLD FIREFOX Now under APP DATA I have these 2 firefox-related folders: 1. APP DATA \ MOZILLA \ FIREFOX and 2. APP DATA \ MOZILLA \ OLD FIREFOX.

This is the folder backing up ones profile refers to: "Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles" https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles

This is likely why it stated "upgrade" and there were no options to get personal info from any mozilla-based S/W.

Since the "new string" profile doesn't have the problem:

It's a brand new browser

There is only ONE FIREFOX folder under PROGRAM FILES: (I had NOT renamed anything under program files)

So I only have 1 firefox - related folder in Program Files: Program Files \ MOZILLA FIREFOX

Maybe I overwrote its contents with the fresh installation?

There is no "profile" in the Program Files \ Mozilla Firefox folder (Should I post a screen shot?)

I am going to hold off with that right now:

When I opened the 'new Firefox' there is nothing there - It is a new program.

I only have OLDSTRING.default copied. (on flash drives) From APP DATA \ MOZILLA \ FIREFOX.

Thank you.

Summary: Yesterday, I had made the mistake of RENAMING the wrong FIREFOX folder (Before running the instaling the new Firefox download). I renamed the Firefox Folder in application data and not the Mozilla Firefox folder in Program Files.

Edit: Fixed problem with folder names. Sorry!

Okay, I see, even though you have two profiles in the "Application Data\Firefox\Profiles" folder, only the newer (empty) one actually is accessible. In that case, go ahead and undo the name change:

With Firefox closed, rename

"Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox"

to

"Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox-ignore"

And rename

"Application Data\Mozilla\OldFirefox"

to

"Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox"

When you start Firefox, it should rediscover your earlier profile and put you back where you were the other day.

The folders are not empty?

The folders are not empty?

Empty in the sense that they do not contain any real data yet.

Hi They have real data: One has the newProfileString.default (currently Firefox) the other has oldProfileString.default (Currently old Firefox) (and both have the crash reports and the text files)

There is only one program files \ Mozilla Firefox folder (I had NOT renamed it) (I had made the mistake of renaming the APP DATA folder)

I will rename the APP DATA \ Mozilla \ Firefoxes but I think this would be the same as when I renamed the newProfileString.default, and moved the oldProfileString.default into the profile folder (The APP DATA \ Mozilla \Firefox \ Profiles Unless it needs the crash reports, and the text file? I'll try Thanks!

Hi, Thank you because the renaming worked. But it won't print. (same issue: Printer gets info -> paper shoots out but if it were printing the printer would make the churning noises - In this case the printer makes none of the noise.)

Do you think I should try "chrome"? I appreciate your help and I will to see.

To me FireFox is getting worse every update, releasing an update with a basic printing problem is big shame!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm glad you were able to solve your problem ...

Just curious: 1. What kind of printer do you have?

2. What was your error?

Just curious: 1. What kind of printer do you have?

2. What was your error?

My Printer is HP Laser Jet P1102W and it is connected to my computers through Wifi to my local private network.

The error was when I choose to print anything inside Firefox the printing window pop up and the system just freezes, I have to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to stop and get out of FireFox and Defreeze my system.

Just to make sure that this problem was not of my system after closing Firefox I went to Explorer and inside the Explorer I was able to print without any problem.

Hi ibrahimshehata

Restarting by using Ctrl+Alt+Del is not really much of a solution. I have no guarantee we can help you; but we may; if you start your own question.

  1. Please use /questions/new
  2. Try to follow the prompts to include sytem information
  3. If you wish post back in this thread to confirm you have your own question

Hi

I didnt Restart my computer usin Ctrl+Alt+Del  !!!!!! This was used to Start Task Manager to stop FireFox that was freezing my system when I choose to Print.

The Real Solution in my case was by Refreshging Firefox followed by normal system Windows Restart from Windows Start Menu.

I will rephrase that. Killing and restarting Firefox is not a good solution.

If you are now indicating, that your alternative and preferred solution is repeatedly using Firefox refresh, that is again not a good solution, and suggests something is going badly wrong.

This thread is solved and so may be closed shortly. It would be a good idea to start your own question.

I didnt say that to refresh Firefox and kill it every time!!!!, I think we are not comunicating on the same channel.

Lets make things clear here, what happened with me is after automatic Firefox update I was unable to print anything inside Firefox, when I tried the system get into hault , so from the thread I tried the suggestion to Refresh Firefox and see if the problem will be solved. But in my case it didnt work.

At first I did that (refresh Firefox) and tried to print from within Firefox, but the problem remains (the sysytem get into hault after poping up printing window). So I went on to restart Windows to see if anything changed, and to my surprise after restarting Windows the problem was solved forever, i.e. I dont have to do this anymore, i.e. I dont need to refresh or restart my system to get Firefox printing. It is printing as usual and life is normal again

So my suggestion is after updating, Refresh FireFox and Restart Windows, that is it..... no more my problem solved.
