I can't stop my pc security program it is filled with viruses etc. I can't fix firefox crashing, screen going black, it freezes. My pc security reports are flooded with tons of issues like: Adware.TrackingCookie.doubleclick.net [c:\users\elly1934\appdata\roaming\mozilla\firefox\profiles, etc. Obviously, ther is a security issue that I can't fix. I am really scared, I don't know anything about pc's.

Hello,

Which anti-virus are you using for your computer?

That particular issue is a tracking cookie, not dangerous but can be concerning for people worried about privacy issues: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracking_cookie

If you are having trouble with viruses I recommend you post a message in a forum specializing in virus/malware removal as they can provide step by step personalized instructions for whether your computer has a legitimate concern or how to use the tools to remove any malicious software:

As for your screen going black - currently in version 33, Firefox has implemented a new, faster way of loading webpages. This new feature is called OMTC. However, there are still some tweaks Mozilla developers are making to this.

There is a known issue that Mozilla works on very hard to fix: if you are experiencing black webpages on some sites, here's what you can do to avoid the problem in the meantime:

Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode. If the problem no longer happens in Safe Mode, please turn off hardware acceleration and then restart Firefox normally.

If you are having trouble opening those links due to the black screen on your browser:

  • If Firefox is open, click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
  • If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode on Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode". Do not select Reset Firefox.

Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options
  • In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the Advanced tab, then select General.
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Close Firefox, wait a few seconds, and then restart normally.

Please let us know if this solves the problem. Engineering is also gathering more information about the issue would request that you fill out this survey
