A couple days ago, Firefox started crashing every time I try to go to a website. The crashing still occurs in Safe Mode. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, but the crashes still persist. I've performed scans for malicious software and that doesn't seem to help resolve the crash problem. Crash ID: bp-1f62f873-5c8d-4fdc-b994-0954821482140530

Thank you for any assistance and clarity.

The forum didn't read your crash ID correctly. Could you right-click the ID on the about:crashes page and Copy Link Location and then paste the whole URL here? Thanks.

I apologize. I was using my phone and typed it manually.

I didn't realize it would stay open long enough for me to view the crash report. I just disabled Hardware Acceleration and hopefully that will rectify the problem.

Thank you for the links. Hopefully disabling hardware acceleration will help.

When I click through the "More Reports" link and select the past 28 days I find the following:

  • According to the Signature Summary tab, that particular crash signature seems to affect exclusively Windows 8 users (97.5%) and Windows 8.1 users (2.5%). So this could be related to an update for those systems.
  • According to the Reports tab, that signature first appeared on May 13th.
  • In reviewing the Comments tab, there are references to opening a video, an advertisements (probably video), and a proxy. These do not lead me to a specific conclusion about the likely cause.

In case Flash is the issue, you could try setting Flash to Click-to-Play ("Ask to Activate"). This will delay Flash from starting on a page until you approve it and help distinguish between problems loading other content types and problems in the Flash plugin.

To set "Ask to Activate", open the Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".

When you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.
