I have Adobe Reader XI(Version 11.0.3) and Firefox 22 installed on my computer. When i try to open any pdf format file it doesnt open in Firefox and an empty page is opened.

When i change PDF format to USE ADOBE ACROBOT READER IN FIREFOX from Portable Document Format (PDF) then PDF file opens up in new page. But when i restart Firefox then the Portable Document Format is changed back to again to option USE ADOBE READER.

Please advise how to set default value as USE ADOBE ACROBOT READER IN FIREFOX from Portable Document Format(PDF) option.

Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the about:config page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.

You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

This is way too complicated to be fun anymore.

It was my investment company (thru their IT dept) that I learned Firefox update had, by error, disabled pdf format for availablity for Adobe. I couldn't open a pdf file from the company, alerteted them , and my investment company employee helped me go to Tools, Options, Accessibility and then click on and Save "Adobe Reader XI" so that I could open pdf files. Shouldn't Firefox have sent me an email alerting me to this Firefox update error and told me how to fix it? Why must we have to search Mozilla to be aware of these issues?
