How can I convince firefox that I am in the US? All websites that change based on location think that I am in Canada and sometimes become completely useless because I cannot use their "near me" features.

I used a VPN a few months ago so I could watch programing on the CBC. I have since deleted my VPN and made sure that all of my OS setting show that I am in the US, also all of the other browsers on my computer do not have this issue.

I want to continue using firefox, but until this is resolved I am going to have to go back to google.

You can use websites like these to see how your location is reported via a reverse DNS look up of your IP:

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":
