Search bar lets me type inside it but gives no suggestions and after I press enter nothing happens. However, using the address bar does work fine. Safe mode solves nothing (for machine 1). Any suggestion? I looked at this link:https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1072262 and was able to resolve the issue by deleting the search.json file on machine 2 (several weeks ago). However, this time I don't see the file (or the others listed).

This is occurring on two different machines exact problem except running in safe mode the search bar DOES work for machine 2. Machine 1: Dell Laptop, running Windows 7 (64 bit) Enterprise (Service Pack 1), running 48.0.1 FF. Machine 1: Desktop, running Windows 7 Ultimate(32 bit) (Service Pack 1), running 47.0.1 FF.

This continues to occur, but I have gotten around the problem (for now) by removing the search.json.mozlz4 file from the profile folder and restarting the browser.

As a reference, I copied an excerpt from the link I mentioned above:

Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
