I recently updated my MacBook Pro to the latest MacOS (Sequoia). Though I didn't notice it immediately, today when I opened Firefox, all text is displayed in a foreign character set. It is pervasive - I've tried to use several tutorials to reset the language and all settings to default, but so far nothing has worked. I've uninstalled Firefox using AppCleaner (which gets any leftover files in OS folders, as well as the app itself), but a clean install results in the same issue. I've disabled all add-ons and reset all settings to default as near as I can tell. The only time the browser displays properly is when it's in Safe Mode. I'm not sure if this is related to the OS update, but I can't seem to identify any other recent change that could have the potential to cause this problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I updated my desktop browser today and now there is an expandable sidebar at the left margin of the window showing tool icons for Tabs from other devices, History and Customize sidebar. I can see how to remove tool icons and how to expand or collapse sidebar but can I remove the sidebar completely? Is this an option? I prefer the old look with the browser web page content extending all the way to the left of the screen, without the narrow vertical sidebar.

Happiness and joy are two emotions often used interchangeably, but they can have different nuances in meaning and experience. Let's explore both concepts in more depth:

      1. **Happiness:**

Happiness is a more broad, enduring emotional state. It can be seen as the general sense of well-being or contentment with life. Happiness is often linked to external factors, such as achieving goals, acquiring things, or experiencing positive events.

- **Types of Happiness**:

 - **Short-term Happiness**: This is the fleeting joy we experience in response to something pleasurable, like eating our favorite food, spending time with loved ones, or receiving good news.
 - **Long-term Happiness**: Often referred to as life satisfaction or well-being, this type of happiness reflects a more enduring state. It's about a general sense of fulfillment, meaning, and purpose in life.

- **Factors Influencing Happiness**:

 - **External**: Relationships, career success, financial stability, health, and other life circumstances.
 - **Internal**: Personal attitude, mindset, gratitude, and resilience. The ability to adapt to change and manage stress can also significantly influence happiness.

- **The Pursuit of Happiness**:

 Many people search for happiness through achievements or possessions, but studies show that sustainable happiness often comes from intangible aspects such as relationships, personal growth, and practicing mindfulness.
      1. **Joy:**

Joy, on the other hand, is often seen as a more intense, momentary feeling of delight. It's an emotion that can come unexpectedly or be sparked by something deeply meaningful or satisfying.

- **The Nature of Joy**:

 - **Instant and Intense**: Joy tends to come in bursts and is often a more intense emotion compared to happiness. For example, joy can come from witnessing a beautiful sunset, receiving an unexpected compliment, or celebrating a significant personal milestone.
 - **Intrinsic**: Joy is often linked to personal experiences, meaningful connections, and moments that resonate deeply with us on an emotional or spiritual level.

- **Sources of Joy**:

 - **Gratitude**: Feeling joy when we acknowledge the good things in our lives, even in the smallest moments.
 - **Connection**: Joy is often shared with others—through laughter, love, and mutual support.
 - **Presence**: Being fully present and appreciating the moment can bring about joy, especially when we take time to savor life’s simple pleasures.
      1. **Happiness vs. Joy**:

While happiness is often a more stable emotional state, joy is more transient, spontaneous, and intense. Here’s how they compare:

- **Duration**: Happiness can last for longer periods, while joy is usually fleeting. - **Intensity**: Joy tends to be a more intense, overwhelming feeling, whereas happiness is more moderate and enduring. - **External vs. Internal**: Happiness can be influenced by external circumstances, while joy often comes from internal sources like personal reflection or emotional experiences.

      1. **How to Cultivate Happiness and Joy:**

1. **Practice Gratitude**: Focusing on the positives in life—whether big or small—can boost both happiness and joy. Writing down things you’re grateful for each day can cultivate a mindset of contentment.

2. **Mindfulness**: Staying present and engaged in the moment can help you experience moments of joy more fully. Mindfulness practices like meditation or deep breathing can enhance your ability to appreciate life as it happens.

3. **Nurture Relationships**: Building strong, meaningful connections with others can increase both your happiness and joy. Spending quality time with loved ones, friends, or even pets can bring about lasting contentment and spur joyful moments.

4. **Self-Compassion**: Being kind to yourself, recognizing your strengths, and allowing yourself to take breaks or make mistakes can contribute to a more sustainable sense of happiness.

5. **Pursue Purpose**: Engaging in activities or work that feels meaningful or aligned with your values can lead to long-term happiness. It’s not just about achieving goals, but finding fulfillment in what you do.

6. **Engage in Joyful Activities**: Whether it’s dancing, hiking, cooking, or painting, find activities that bring you joy and make time for them regularly. Doing what you love is a great way to tap into those intense feelings of joy.

In summary, both happiness and joy are essential to a fulfilling life, but they manifest in different ways. Happiness tends to be more enduring and related to contentment in life, while joy is more intense and spontaneous, often tied to moments of deep emotional connection or personal meaning. Embracing both in your life can lead to a more balanced, fulfilling emotional experience.

It looks like some sites are not working properly, two examples I can give are google sheets&docs, in the attached image you can see my sheets are not being shown, note that if I directly access a sheet's link it does open.

The second example is some websites with media players just load infinitely (YouTube works).

Also added network tab non 200 status code requests images.

Things I've tried:

  • Disabled "network.dns.disablePrefetch".
  • Tried troubleshoot mode(meaning those requests that were blocked by ublock are not the problem).
  • Deleted history including cookies.
  • Private Browsing.
  • User Agent masking
  • Reinstalling

About a week ago, I started having these problems with FF 136.0 (64-bit) on Windows 10:

  • Gmail (mail.google.com) became completely inaccessible
  • Google Maps (maps.google.com) opens normally, but app icons stopped displaying correctly (as in attached screenshot)

Comments:

  • Gmail and Google Maps are accessible normally on Chrome and Edge
  • YouTube (which is another Google product) works fine on my FF
  • Tried refreshing FF then tried clearing all cookies, caches, and browsing history, but made no improvement of any kind.

Any advice?

Hi All,

I would like to hide the "New Tab to Right" option on the Tab Context Menu, and also remove the separator line right below that menu item.

The first line in the following code removes the Menu Item, but none of the 4 remaining lines succeed in removing the separator line. It remains at the top of the menu (see attached image).

Could anyone suggest some code to also remove the separator line at the top?

This is in FF 135.

Thank you.

#context_openANewTab,
#context_openANewTab + menuseparator,
#context_openANewTab_separator,
#context_reloadTab_separator,
#context_reloadTab + menuseparator::before {
   display: none !important;
}

This code below removes the first menu item and ALL separators from ALL menus, which is "ok" but not optimal.

menuseparator,
#context_openANewTab {
   display: none !important;
}

This solution provided by cor-el a few years ago appears to no longer work (the separator remains): https://support.mozilla.org/nl/questions/1340761

I searched the forums and found a few similar entries but i couldn't see any solution so far. Whenever i try to open my inbox the page initially loads and shows the progress bar but after the progress hits 100% it just hangs there and nothing happens. See screenshot please. Gmail works normally in other browser (MS Edge) and my Android phone. I've been experiencing this issue for more than a month now. Not sure exactly when it started. Probably with v134. Installing v135 fresh didn't change anything. This is one of the most persistent issues i've experienced about browsers. I use Avast AV but all browser modules are disabled + web shield disabled.

So far i tried these steps to no avail: - Clear cache and history - Clear whole site data by using "forget site" feature - Clear cache and cookies using the padlock icon next to the search bar - Disable/enable hardware acceleration - Disable/enable javascript (gmail requires javascript to work anyways) - Disabled all add ons/extensions, tried safe mode - Reinstalled firefox after uninstalling and deleting any left over folders

My system specs: - Windows 10 pro 22h2 x64 - ASrock B450M HDV R4 Mainboard - AMD Ryzen R5 3600X CPU - AMD RX 6600 GPU - 16 GB DDR4 3000 RAM, 250 GB M2 SSD

https://youtu.be/Px_OuISuwiA

After briefly succumbing to the ToS hysteria, I decided to switch to Librewolf. It took a while, but I got logged into sync, set up my extensions and copied over my cookie exceptions and custom CSS.

Some of the data that came over from Firefox sync seemed very wrong or out of date, most notably the settings for container tabs. No big deal I thought. I'll just manually edit the discrepancies. Once I had everything set up the way I like it, I looked up a guide on how to sync my current configuration with the cloud and followed the steps.

Phew. Time to watch some YouTube to relax. Problem is that when I finished a video and tried to watch another video, I was logged out and my site settings had reverted to default. I figured the cookie settings were wrong, so I went to the settings page and saw the behaviour outlined in the video I posted.

I've been trying to get this working for over a day now. I've tried resetting Firefox, creating new profiles and doing a clean re-install using "Geek Uninstaller" to make sure everything is removed first. I've tried 3 different forks of Firefox and all 3 of them do the same thing. After I re-install everything, I open the browser and the first thing I do is go to the settings but it's still doing the thing I showed in the video.

The fact that the data on my Firefox Sync is so old has me wondering. Why won't the cloud data update itself anymore? Based on the state of my containers, the Sync data is more than a year out of date. Could there be something wrong with that data that broke my browser when it downloaded?

I'm going to try and get hold of another computer later and try syncing to that to see if it breaks that browser too. I'll update this post when I know more.

Thanks for reading all this.

P.S. I'm typing this using Edge because my Firefox is so badly broken.

Hello,

For a few days now I've been unable to use Google tools via Firefox (I can't tell if this is due to an update or not).

As soon as a document (usually an editable or navigable area) is opened on the page, it appears completely black. Interactions work correctly at first glance (it's possible to click, write, interact with content that isn't displayed. The problem seems to be purely visual.

I've encountered the problem in all Google Sheet or Docs documents (including when I'm making a new one) and on Google Maps, regardless of location (in the case of Google maps, a notable point is that the map is displayed and then turns black after one or two seconds).

I don't have this problem on another browser, I have it in PM.

Do you have any ideas on how to find the cause and fix the problem?

Have a nice day!

I am one of those old-fashioned guys who has a title bar on the main window, and inside this (from top to bottom) a menu bar (File/Edit/View etc), then the current set of tabs, then the address bar.

I can click in the address bar and the caret appears, but the moment I start to type anything to edit the URL the address bar jumps up to to the top of the window, covering up the menus and tabs, with a menu of suggested URLs that at times covers most of the rest of the screen. Some images attached to show what I mean.

This started in a recent-ish release -- it didn't use to do this.

How can I prevent this behaviour, so I can just edit a URL in place the way I used to without the address bar jumping to the top of the window?

Currently using FF 135.0 (64-bit), Windows 11.
