I recently deleted my browsing history in firefox. After doing so my internet speed has become horrendously slow even in other browsers. I tried resetting my modem, reinstalling frefox, and even did a system restore. Nothing has helped yet.

It all started after I cleared my browser history. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

What do you mean with : even in other browsers ?

Are that browsers other than Firefox?

Does that only happen when Firefox is running?

Did you try to check for issues with the places.sqlite database file?

You can also try to delete the cookies.sqlite file.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

You can create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

You may have malware if all browsers are slow.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I tried creating a new profile like cor-el suggested this seems to have fixed the problem. I would have never have thought of checking that (didn't even know firefox created a profile for me).

I guess my old profile was somehow corrupted when i cleared my browsing history.

thank you everyone for all of your help!
