Firefox is my browser, msn is my homepage. How can I get my bookmarks pinned to the margin as they are with IE?

I want to change from Internet Explorer to Firefox as my Browser and Homepage and I want Firefox homepage to show me my bookmarks whenever I log in (which is what Internet Explorer does). Also I want the Firefox home page to show me activity in my gmail inbox. I am running Windows 7 on my PC thanks

Press the Alt key to make the menubar appear, then go to View -> Sidebar -> Bookmarks (Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+B). This will give you a panel on the left with all your bookmarks in, similar to the pinned Favourites panel in Internet Explorer.

If you'd like GMail to appear every time you open Firefox, first go to your Inbox, then drag the gmail icon to your Home button. (Alternatively, use the method described for multiple items: Options -> General -> Use Current Page, and When Firefox starts: show my homepage.)

Thanks. Very helpful. Is there a way to transfer my bookmarks (favorites) from IE to Firefox, or do I need to recreate? thanks again

This guide should walk you through transferring your Favorites.

If that doesn't work, Microsoft have an article on Exporting Favorites from IE to an HTML file, which you can then Import to Firefox using the 'Import Bookmarks from HTML...' option shown in the guide above.
