I have lost all of my bookmarks. Have tried restart, restore and cannot find firefox profile in App support, I have a imac

I am running snow leopard, my folders are there but show empty, I have been away on holiday so shut down the mac in the usual way. There was also an issue with my wifi network which resetting has resolved.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
