ELIMINATE PRIMARY PASSWORD
'bold text' I DO NOT WANT A PRIMARY PASSOWORD. I CANNOT REMEMBER IT OR CHANGE IT. IT IS A PAIN.

I GUESS I AM NOT BEING CLEAR. I KEEP GETTING A LOGIN MESSAGE IN MY FIREFOX BROWSER. I DON'T REMEMBER MY PASSWORD AND SO I ELECT TO CHANGE IT. I GET AN EMAIL THAT SENDS ME A LINK TO CHANGE MY PASSWORD WHICH I CANNOT SINCE I DON'T REMEMBER THE ORIGINAL IN THE FIRST PLACE. I DON'T HAVE A RECOVERY KEY.
IT SEEMS THIS PRIMARY PASSWORD IS SET UP TO PROTECT MY OTHER SITE PASSWORDS AND CC's WHICH IS GREAT BUT IT CAUSES MORE PROBLEMS THAN IT IS WORTH.
I THINK I GOT INTO THIS MESS WHEN I ELECTED TO SYNC WITH OTHER OF MY DEVICES. WHILE NICE, I DON'T NEED THIS OPTION AND AM MORE THAN WILLING TO STOP WITH SYNC.
A CHAT ON THIS WOULD BE HELPFUL. BUT I WOULD PROBABLY NEED A PASSWORD!
That sounds more like you are talking about the password of the Firefox (Sync) account.

Do not confuse the Primary Password that is used to encrypt the logins stored in the profile folder with the password of the Firefox Account like used for Sync.
Using Sync is a possible reason to ask for the Primary Password at startup. This is because the credentials to login to the Sync account are stored in the Password Manager and you need to enter the Primary Password to unlock the passwords and connect/login to the Sync account.
