Thunderbird downloaded latest version and I installed it, but it would not sign-on to my email provider so I tried to install the previous version 68.6.0 and now I can not access my address book or my prior emails. Is there any way to recover especially the address book?

lets back up.... A lot.

Install the current version and we can work through fixing it. But messing with lost information in an old version the updated profile is probably no longer compatible with is truly a self defeating process as you will update again and the same thing will probably happen. If you are going to expecnt effort, expend it whgere there will be long term gain.

BTW Most, probably 99.95% of problems connecting to an email provider post update are caused by anti virus products. It is a sad fact of life. Generally it is their firewall component, but not always. I have also seen refusal to download mail after connecting, timeouts, repeated downloads of the same email but nothing new and a whole host of other oddities with the same source because they used some sort of addon that they injected into the running application (never appears in the addon manager in Thunderbird) that just was not compatible after update.

I have seen one occasion in the last 10 years where there was a change to Thunderbird security standards that cause folk problem with mail providers that were still living in the 1990's. Sadly some of those providers are still out there like Typhoid Mary.

Thank you for your helpful advice. I did re-install the latest version of Thunderbird and it is working. The old adoor.mab appears to have the majority of my contact information. I saw a couple of software apps that claim to be able to extract a CSV file and then I think I could import that and save the majority of my contacts. I am also trying to locate my external hard drive which I have misplaced that contains my last backup. Do you think the apps are a possibility - I am on a fixed income and hate to spend 50. on something that may or may not work. one offer says it is a free download that will process the first 15 records, then if it works you pay for full access.

Thanks for all your help - I finally actually read about Thunderbird import and found that it will import .mab files called MORK - I guess I am showing my impatience in my old age. Please disregard my previous post.
