What web page and how are you downloading it?

The file only contains the script to display the page in a browser.

The folder of the same name contains the elements of that page.

Now I know it is the folder I don't want saved when I download web pages, the file is the web page itself, right? so how do I not get those folders cluttering my desktop?

more options

First, open the file using Word to see if what you want is inside. If it is, just remove the matching folder.

You should not save to the desktop since this could place too many icons on it. Save everything to a 'download' folder. If you want to save it, move it to Permanent storage.

Let me ask it again, When I download from a web search, I get a folder and a file. I know what to do with the file, but don't want the folder. It is an extra step to drag the folder to the trash and I would rather not have it downloaded in the first place. How to stop the download of folders along with the file I want?

You get the extra files folder that stores images and CSS files and JavaScript files as the main additional files. The other choices only save one file (plain text or HTML file) and you lose the image and CSS formatting except inline CSS code.

See also the Network Monitor to see what files are downloaded.

Cor-el and others- I went to Bronx Science, but that was eons ago, and despite my extremely high IQ, I couldn't follow the instructions you so nicely listed for me. All you younger people should know that your brains are actually different from those of my generation because you grew up with computers. So, be kind to grandparents, their brains are fantastic but different. Signed, Dr. C.
