how to remove a language pack (FF 57.0 on Linux Mint). no "remove" button at all

There are multiple language packs available in firefox 57 on Linux Mint. I need none, so I want to remove them. But no "remove" button is available. Same for "safe mode".

Go to about:addons -- and try removing them from there -- if that doesn't work, do a Refresh:

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

If you are using the Firefox packages from Mint then there may be one or more of the Firefox packages from Mint installed in the package manager and not from Mozilla. The official Firefox builds from Mozilla do not come with multiple language packs.

Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.

Thanks for the replies! I tested the offered options today. Refreshing Firefox did not help (which makes sense as it was a relatively fresh installation). The the Firefox version is indeed from the Mint repository. Installing Firefox from a genric archive is too much a hurdle for the moment. I'm a newbie on Linux. So I'll park this issue for another time.
